Me-made red-white striped dress pattern 104 Burda May 2014 ... Sewionista.com ... Sewing ... Slow Fashion ... DIY ... Blog

Red is not my colour. I think this skirt is the only garment that I have sewn that even features this colour. And I hate to admit it, but I rarely wear it, even though I’m still loving this print. But when it comes to stripes, I can hardly resist. So I ended up purchasing this red-white striped fabric at the Maybachufer fabric market in Berlin. Therefore, this fabric does not sit in my fabric stash forever, I have joined the 12 Colours of Handmade Fashion of Tweed & Greet, which fittingly had red as their July theme. I would have loved to show you this dress worn, but the weather has just been too cold lately. Let’s keep our fingers crossed, that it will warm up again and I can get a lot of wear out of this year 😉

Pattern modification:  I did not make any changes to the pattern.. Even though I’m not tall enough with 5 ft 7 for the tall sizes, it fit me without any adjustments. However, I changed the construction as I completely lined the bodice. Burda doubles the front and finishes the back with a facing, which does not make sense to me.

Conclusion:  I’m really loving this pattern and the feminine shape of this dress. At first, I had doubts that the neckline might be cut too low, but it is perfect the way it is. Due to the stripes, I used up a huge amount of fabric (3.5 m!), but if you sew this pattern from a different fabric the amount that Burda indicates, should be sufficient. I can quite imagine to use this pattern again 🙂
