Behind the Seams – Rückblick März 2017

Wo ist die Zeit geblieben? Die erste Aprilwoche ist schon wieder vorbei, also allerhöchste Zeit für meinen Monatsrückblick vom März. How time flies… the first April week has already come and gone… high time for my March review.

Im März habe ich euch meine Bikerjacke mit Schößchen, mein Projekt für die Aktion “Vom Laufsteg in den Kleiderschrank”, gezeigt und über die Schnittkonstruktion berichtet. Im letzten Monat hatte ich leider nur wenig Zeit zum Nähen und diese Zeit ging voll und ganz für das Nähen von Musterteilen für meinen ersten Schnitt drauf. Entstanden sind 4 Röcke, die ich bereits auf Instagram gezeigt habe. Mehr Details gibt es demnächst hier. Im Rahmen des Spring Style Along habe ich im März mehr Zeit für die Planung neuer Nähprojekte verwendet. Im ersten Teil ging es um die Bestandsaufnahme der aktuellen Frühjahrsgarderobe und im zweiten Teil um das Wunschkonzert aka die Planung der Nähprojekte. In March I showed you my biker jacket with peplum as part of the sew-along “From Runway to Closet” and talked about the making of the pattern. Last month I had very little time for sewing and this time was eaten up by making samples for my first pattern. I made 4 sample skirts, which I showed you on Instagram, but you will see more of them here soon. As part of the Spring Style Along, I spent quite a lot of time planning my next sewing projects. The first part of the sew-along was all about the current state of my spring wardrobe and the second was about my sewing plans for my spring fashion.

Außerdem habe ich die Bikerjacke mit Schößchen mit einem meiner heißgeliebten Streifenshirts und Lederleggings getragen. Besonders habe ich mich auch darüber gefreut, dass beide Outfits es in die Wednesday Weekly Auswahl von Helens Closet geschafft haben. Helen stellt jede Woche einen tollen Überblick über alles Neue in der Nähwelt zusammen, den ich immer sehr gerne lese. Thank you so much for the many nice comments that you left me last month! Especially my floral dress styled with a biker jacket seemed to have been right up your alley. In addition, I showed you my new biker jacket worn with one of my beloved striped shirts and leather leggings. I was also very happy that both outfits made it into the Wednesday Weekly selection of Helens Closet. Helen curates every week what has been going on in the sewing world and I always look forward to her weekly summary.

Vielleicht sollte ich das mit der Stoffdiät einfach aufgeben. So richtig komme ich nicht zum Nähen und da ich die Stoffe, die ich für mein Business kaufe und vernähe nicht mitzähle, hat mein Stoffvorrat nicht abgenommen im März. Im Gegenteil,  es sind sogar noch 4 m hinzugekommen für den rosafarbenen Trenchcoat. Hoffentlich schaffe ich es im April wieder mehr für mich zu nähen, am besten den Trenchcoat, damit mein Stoffvorrat endlich mal etwas abnimmt. Der aktuelle Stand ist 24 gekaufte versus 20 vernähte Meter. Maybe I should just give up on this year’s fabric diet. I don’t seem to find much sewing time and as I don’t count fabric that I buy and sew for my business, I did not manage to make a dent in my fabric stash. Quite the contrary as I added 4 m to the stash for my light pink trenchcoat. Hopefully, I can manage to sew more in April. Especially, the trenchcoat would be a good sewing project to use up as much as possible of my stash. The current state is 24 m bought versus 20 m sewn.

Es geht voran, wenn auch langsamer als mir lieb ist. Im März habe ich mir einen detaillierten Plan gemacht und jede Aufgabe in kleine Schritte unterteilt, priorisiert und nach und nach auf meiner To Do-Liste abgehakt. Das hat eigentlich ganz gut funktioniert, allerdings muss ich darauf achten, dass meine Tagesziele realistisch sind, meist nehme ich mir viel mehr vor als ich schaffen kann. Als ersten Schnitt habe ich das kostenlose “Swing Top” Schnittmuster veröffentlicht. Ich war sehr froh, als mit der Technik und den Downloads alles geklappt hat und freue mich schon auf eure Werke! Dummerweise hat dann mit der Technik für den automatischen Download meiner Schnitte bei Dawanda nicht alles auf Anhieb geklappt, so dass erst ab heute mein neues Schnittmuster, der “Grande Arche Rock”, erhältlich ist. In March I made a detailled plan, divided my tasks into smaller steps, prioritized them and checked them off one by one on my to do list. This worked quite well for me but I have to keep in mind to keep my daily goals realistically as I tend to plan more than I can do in one day. The first pattern is also published, the free Swing Top pattern. I was very relieved when everything went well with the technical side and downloads have worked smoothly. I’m already looking forward to seeing your finished pieces! Unfortunately, the automatic download at Dawanda has not been that smoothly, which delayed the start of  the next pattern, the “Grande Arche Skirt” until today. Lesestoff / Reading list:

• Durch Zufall habe ich auf Instagram den noch recht neuen Nähblog “Enkeda” entdeckt. Die Nähprojekte von Kerstin gefallen mir sehr, da sie ungewöhnlich, sehr modisch und oft von Designern inspiriert sind. By chance I stumbled upon the relatively new sewing blog “Enkeda” on Instagram. I really enjoy the sewing projects of Kerstin as they are quite unusual, very fashionable and often inspired by designer fashion.
• Dieser Artikel auf Man Repeller, der sich für das Dressing Up statt dem gerade in Mode gekommenen Dressing Down einsetzt, hat mir voll und ganz aus dem Herzen gesprochen. Besonders lachen musste ich über den Satz, dass dank Vetements der Briefträger jetzt schicker ist als die Pariser Oma 🙂 Lasst uns also jederzeit anziehen, worin wir uns gut fühlen – ob overdressed oder nicht! I absolutely loved this article posted on Man Repeller and it campaigns for dressing up instead of the currently fashionable dressing down. The sentence “with Vetements arriving on the fashion stage, your postman suddenly looked chicer than your Parisian grandma” made me laugh out loud 🙂 Let’s wear at any time clothes that we feel dressed up in, whether we are overdressed or not!
• Zwar nichts zum Lesen, aber im März habe ich die Serie “Z – The Beginning of Everything” verschlungen. Die Serie handelt von dem Leben von Zelda Fitzgerald, der Frau von F. Scott Fitzgerald, und ist das Porträt einer bemerkenswerten Frau, die ihrer Zeit weit voraus war. Da “Der große Gatsby” eines meiner absoluten Lieblingsbücher ist, fand ich es spanned mehr über den Autor und den Einfluss seiner Frau auf seine Werke zu erfahren. Leider ist die Serie nur auf Amazon Prime erhältlich. Falls ihr sie noch nicht gesehen habt, kann ich sie euch sehr empfehlen. Not reading material, but I just loved watching “Z – The Beginning of Everything” in March. The TV series is about the life of Zelda Fitzgerald, the wife of F. Scott Fitzgerald, an extraordinary woman that was far ahead of her time. As “The Great Gatsby” is one of my all-time favourite books, I enjoyed to find out more about the author and the influence his wife had on his works. Unfortunately, the series is only available via Amazon Prime. I can highly recommend it, if you haven’t watched it already.
