After finishing my Mini Wardrobe and before jumping into the suit sew-along, I needed a quick and easy sewing project. The other participants of the suit sew-along are today showing their finished jackets at the Me Made Mittwoch blog. At least I managed to pretreat my fabric and lining and trace the patterns today. And since Pattern Review is running the Lined Jacket Contest during October, I joined that one as well. Now I’m double motivated to finish my blazer on time. But now to the quick top that I made this weekend.

Pattern: the free PDF-pattern for a dolman sleeve top from Cation Designs

Difficulty: ●○○○○

Size: S (for comparison, I’m a straight 36 in Burda patterns)

Sewing time incl. cutting: Around  2 hours.

Costs: I got the printed jersey for free from work. The piece was just big enough to cut the front from it. I bought the black jersey from ebay for 5.50 € and with a consumption of 0.5 m for the back and the hem band, the total cost is 2.75 €.

Pattern review: The top is very comfortable but figure hugging due to the hem band. The dolman sleeves make it very easy to sew and the best thing about it: not much fabric is needed for this pattern.

Pattern modification: I had to shorten the sleeves by 5 cm to be able to cut it from the printed jersey. Instead of finishing the sleeves and neckline with the jersey bands, I just folded the seam allowance under and topstitched it with a twin needle.

Conclusion: This was certainly not the last time that I have sewn this pattern. Every now and then I just need a quick and easy sewing project that offers instant gratification.

And what did you sew this weekend?
