Outer Banks, NC – USA
This week’s Me-Made-Mittwoch motto is “I pack my suitcase”. Unfortunately, I have already unpacked mine and my summer vacation is already behind me. At least this means that I can show you an outfit that I have worn during my vacation. Have you already identified the pattern? It is the pattern that I have used for this wrap dress, this maxi dress and this wrap blouse. I made the 4th version of this pattern this year during Sewing by the Sea from leftover fabric of this skirt. And to be honest, this is the hardest version to style. Even though, I’m a big lover of stripes, I have to admit that this dress tends to look like a nurse uniform by itself. For today’s outfit I wrapped the long ties several times around myself, knotted them in the back and covered them by the belt. I actually really like this dress styled with the brown accessories and I hope that I can come up with more outfit ideas that make it look less “nursy” so that it does not only hang in my closet.
I visited my sister in the US again this summer and of course we had to stop at the Outer Banks, a group of islands on the coast of North Carolina, for a few days. Outside of the US the Outer Banks seem to be not known at all, which make them the perfect travel destination in my opinion. Besides long sandy beaches, they offer nature reserves with wild horses, cute small towns with typical wood houses and quaint lighthouses. In addition, the islands are full of history, which makes them even more interesting to me. There used to be the first English settlement on Roanoke Island, which disappeared without a trace a few years later and the mystery of the so-called “Lost Colony” is still unsolved. The island of Ocracoke was the last refuge of the pirate Blackbird and the brothers Wright made their first flight in the town of Kitty Hawk on Bodie Island. As you can tell, I have fallen in love with these islands 😉 And what is your favourite spot for vacation?
