Peacock Island, Berlin
Today’s pictures look like they were taken in Southern France. But you guessed wrong! Unfortunately, I still have to wait until August for my summer vacation and the pictures were actually taken in Berlin. At Peacock Island situated in the middle of the Wannsee to be exact. Nevertheless, this short trip to the island felt like a short vacation and was a welcome downtime after an especially stressful week. Note to self, play tourist in your own city more often 😉 We got lucky and could spend a very sunny day and relaxed afternoon there. Everything started off with a picnic and an exploration of the island later on. Of course, we were especially keen on finding the name giving peacocks that run around freely all over the island. Peacock island belongs to the UNESCO cultural heritage and is also a nature reserve. To get there it is easiest to take the S-Bahn until the station Wannsee and from there the bus 218 (comes every 30 minutes) until the final stop “Pfaueninsel”. The short trip with the very, which includes the entrance to the island, costs only 4 € per person.
My new gingham blouse, which I decided to make very spontaneously, has turned out to be a stroke of luck. Since finishing it, I have already worn it countless times and every time it’s in the wash, I can’t wait to wear it again. As usual an image on Pinterest was the inspiration behind this sewing project. I was immediately convince that I absolutely needed such a gingham blouse in my closet. Luckily, I had the perfect fabric already sitting in my stash. I quickly considered trying out a new pattern but as I had already made pattern 3B of the Burda Easy issue SS2016 twice (1x white and 1x striped) and I was very happy with the outcome, I decided to stick to the TNT pattern instead. I used to really plan my sewing projects ahead of time but lately I have mainly sewn spontaneously what I wanted to wear right away. This has turned out to work quite well for me as these pieces get even more wear than my other garments. Are you a planned or spontaneous sewer – to which camp do you count yourself? What works best for you?
